Work included refreshing the cylinder head, resealing the four-speed manual transmission, and overhauling the carburetors, steering, suspension, and brake hydraulic systems. The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate indicates the original colors, options, and drivetrain numbers. This 1960 Triumph TR3A was acquired by the current owner in 1993 and underwent a cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment that was completed in 1997. A replacement stainless steel exhaust system is fitted, and additional photos of the underside are provided in the image gallery. The seller notes the solenoid engages when the dash-mounted switch is pushed, but the overdrive system has not been tested. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a rebuilt four-speed manual transmission with overdrive and a rear differential that was also rebuilt under previous ownership. Additional work reportedly consisted of rebuilding or replacing the original-style wiring, starter, generator, and radiator.
The seller states the engine was overhauled under previous ownership and the oil pan was removed and checked before assembly. The 1,991cc inline-four is mounted with dual SU carburetors and a chrome valve cover.
Cracks are noted in the steering wheel, and an auxiliary horn button is installed below the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 95k miles, and the total mileage is unknown. The three-spoke banjo-style steering wheel frames a chrome-ringed 120-mph speedometer and tachometer, while auxiliary gauges are mounted in the center of the dash. The driver’s side interior door handle release is in need of adjustment. Replacement red carpets sourced from a Roadster Factory kit were also added, and additional equipment includes lap belts, a locking glove box, a heater, and an adjustable steering column. The cabin was reupholstered in red vinyl and features white piping on the front seats and side panels. The suspension was overhauled during the refurbishment, along with the front disc and rear drum brakes. Painted 15″ wire wheels feature chrome two-eared knocks and are mounted with older Tigar TG505 tires sized 165SR that should be replaced due to age. A new black soft top in a box is included in the sale and hasn’t been fitted to the car. The seller notes that the chrome on the front bumper is flaking. Equipment includes dual front fender mirrors, wind wings, and rear fender guards. Additional work consisted of repainting the color-matched hardtop and refinishing the chrome trim with the exception of the front bumper. The body was repaired and repainted in British Racing Green and the frame in red.
The seller reports that the car was acquired as a rolling project in 2008 and that the body was subsequently removed from the frame.
